2011 was an extremely busy year around the Fairview! With the start of 2012 it's fun to look back at a few of the exciting things that happened over the past year. A couple of our favorites include:
Peter Sharp, Fairview Inn Innkeeper
Peter was selected out of over 400 inns across the United States for the distinctive honor of being named Innkeeper of the Year. "I am honored to share this award with my loving wife, Tamar, our incredible staff, and so many in our industry who have supported us along our innkeeping journey," said Sharp. The Innkeeper of the Year Award is given annually to members who have made a significant, long-term contribution to the organization as well as to their community, the industry and charitable organizations. The Fairview Inn was among nine inns across the South to be chose as one of the South's Coziest Inns. What's the coziest room in the Fairview? Many guests have different opinions but the most popular response is the oak-paneled library. This space, the most original to the 1908 time period of the home, is filled with many first edition novels, an antique civil war chess set and warm fireplace.

"Help yourself to Mississippi"
Photo pictured above from The Help Jackson premier luncheon hosted at the Fairview.
The Fairview Inn was honored to host the cast of The Help while they filmed in Jackson, MS (from actors that included Emma Stone, Ahna O'Reilly and many others to the films producers, Christopher Columbus and others). The Help brought much attention to the state of Mississippi and Jackson. The film was well received by the public and has even won major awards in recent months. The UK Sun visited Jackson this past fall to see where the story takes place and to have an official tour of Mississippi. The Fairview was privileged again to host such a great crew of people eager to learn about Mississippi history. We had no idea that we would land the cover story of the UK Sun after their visit! USA Today also picked up The Help story and wrote a great travel article on Jackson and the tourism significance of The Help on the Jackson community. Read more: USA Today
This award is given after a strict yearly inspection of the property and means, "these establishments are upscale in all areas. Accommodations are progressively more refined and stylish. The physical attributes reflect an obvious enhanced level of quality throughout. The fundamental hallmarks at this level include an extensive array of amenities combined with a high degree of hospitality, service, and attention to detail."

2011 marked the third year of the Chefs and the City fundraising event. This event was created to celebrate and honor the life of 15 year old Simon Sharp, son of Peter and Tamar Sharp (Fairview Innkeepers), who lost his battle with leukemia the day after he became an Eagle Scout. Over the past three years, through this event they have raised over $80,000 to benefit these charities.
